On the morning of August 20, 2026, HM&P Law Firm ("HM&P") welcomed a delegation from The Law Society of Singapore to visit and work at HM&P's office in Ho Chi Minh City. The meeting is part of the delegation's work program in Ho Chi Minh City from August 17 to 20, 2026, creating an opportunity for lawyers from both sides to discuss practice activities, the legal environment and issues that are being concerned by businesses in cross-border business activities.

The Law Society of Singapore delegation consists of 20 lawyers, led by Professor Tan Cheng Han, President of The Law Society of Singapore. With members operating in a wide range of practice fields, the trip aims to deepen their understanding of the legal environment, business and legal services market in Vietnam, while strengthening connections with the local legal community.

At the meeting, Managing Partner Nguyen Van Phuc and HM&P lawyers introduced an overview of HM&P, its team, key practice areas and development orientation. Much of the program time was then spent exchanging expertise and discussing legal issues of practical significance for businesses operating in Vietnam and in cross-border transactions.

HM&P lawyers proposed and presented key thematic topics.

One of the key contents is the topic "Vietnam's New Law on Personal Data Protection: Key Impacts on Offshore Companies for Cross-Border Data Processing" proposed and presented by HM&P. The seminar focuses on analyzing changes in the legal framework on personal data protection in Vietnam and the impact on foreign enterprises when processing, transferring and managing cross-border data. From this presentation, the lawyers of the two sides discussed compliance requirements and issues arising in practice, showing that data protection is becoming an increasingly important component of legal risk management for international businesses. Lawyer Nguyen Van Phuc shared:

"Data is increasingly tied to international business. Therefore, legal advice on data cannot stop at the approach of an individual legal system. The exchange of experiences between Vietnamese and Singaporean lawyers helps the parties have more practical perspectives to support businesses to handle cross-border legal issues more effectively."

Managing Partner Nguyen Van Phuc present commemorative gifts.

In addition to the topic of personal data protection, the meeting also took time for lawyers to exchange practice experience, share market perspectives and learn about the possibility of coordination in work with Vietnam-Singapore elements. Direct and open exchanges contribute to enhancing mutual understanding, and at the same time create a foundation for professional relations between lawyers and legal practice organizations of the two countries.

Lawyer Phuc discusses directions for future cooperation.

The meeting ended with the expectation that the connections formed from the program will continue to be developed into professional exchange activities and specific cooperation opportunities in the future. HM&P would like to thank The Law Society of Singapore and its members for taking the time to visit, work and share experiences at the HM&P’s office.
